Albania

Albania or Republic of Albania is a country which is located on the eastern coast of Adriatic Sea. It margins with Serbia and Montenegro to its north, Greece to its south, Macedonia to its east and to its west is the coast of Adriatic Sea. In the ancient times Albania was known as Illyria and it was ruled by the Byzantine Empire from 535 to 1204. It was also ruled by Ottoman Empire from whom they received independence on 28th November 1912. Albania is named as one of the poorest countries in Europe and the main occupation of the people in Albania is agriculture. Albania is been divided into 12 districts namely Berat, Diber, Fier, Elbasan, Durres, Gijrokaster, Vlore, Tirana, Shkoder, Lezhe, Kukes and Korce.

The official language of Albania is generally Albanian where as the majority of people are Muslims and only 10 percent are Christians. Albania is a mountainous and rugged land except on the coast of Adriatic which is fertile. The climate of the country is Mediterranean through dry and hot summers, wet and mild winters. The mountainous region especially in the north has mild summers and severe winters. One third of the country is pasture and one fifth area is cultivated as most of the land is covered with forest.
