Austria

Austria is a country situated in the Central Europe which has a mountainous territory of the eastern Alps. This country is full of glaciers, snowcapped peaks and snowfields. Grossglockner peak is one of the highest peaks which is about 12,530 feet above sea level and the main river that flows in the country is the Danube. In the ancient times Austria was ruled by several tribes even Romans had established their empire in this country. After the Roman Empire was overthrown, Charlemagne conquered this area and encouraged Christianity. After the end of World War II Austria was declared as liberate but the Russians extended their pre-occupation. In the year 1929 an amendment was passed and Austria was declared neutral by the federal parliament.

Austria is been divided into 9 states among which are Burgenland, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Vienna. The official language of Austria is German although Croatian, Hungarian and Slovene languages are also spoken. Majority of the people are Austrian nationals and there are about 74 percent Roman Catholics in the country besides 5 percent being Protestants and 4 percent are Muslims. Austria is most famous cattle and diary products although its chief manufacturing products are iron, steel, vehicles, paper, wood and chemicals. Austria is also named among the worlds richest countries in the terms of GDP per capita.
