In 1991 Macedonia gained in dependence from Yugoslavia but its international recognition was delayed, due to Greece’s intervention. In 1995 the situations between the 2 countries were normalized. Macedonia is located in Southeastern Europe to the north of Greece and is surrounded by Albania, Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia.
The culture of Macedonia is rich in architecture, art, poetry and music. It also has many religious sites that are ancient and are hence protected. Festivals of poetry, cinema and music are held regularly in Macedonia. Music of Macedonia was developed under the influence of music of Byzantine church. The country has preserved many of the stunning frescos of Byzantine Church. The country has a remarkable blend of modern and ancient architecture in the forms of new structures and old churches and monasteries.
In 1991 Macedonia was the least developed country of the Yugoslavia countries. However, the GDP of the country has risen after independence. In today’s date it is has intermediary-developed industries. The government has arrangements with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. The open economy of the country has also integrated international trade. The total trade to GDP ratio of the Macedonia is 79.5%. Industry and agriculture are the most important sectors of the country. The service sector of the country has increased and the workforce is skilled and educated.
