Norway is officially known as the kingdom of Norway. It is a northern European country that is bordered by Russia, Finland and Sweden. The famous fjords of the country are found along its extensive coastline. It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and boasts of a fully developed welfare system. Since 2001 Norway ahs ranked as the best of the countries which boast of human development. It has been rated as the most peaceful country of the world in the year 2007 according to the Global Peace Index.
Norway had a unique farm culture which resulted from ancient property laws in Norway which are still visible in the country. Edward Munch was the most famous expressionist painter of Norway. The country is also rich in classical music, modern music and black metal music. Norway has been the homeland of many Noble prize winners in literature. The cuisine of Norway has been influenced by farming and sea faring traditions.
GDP per capita of Norway is 3rd highest in the world and it ranks 1st in the world in the Human development Index of UNDP for the fifth year in a row. The economy of Norway is mixed with large government ownership and free market activity. Key areas of economy are controlled by the government.
