Slovakia

Slovakia is a landlocked country precisely in the central Europe. Hence, Slovakia is termed as the “country at the heart of Europe”. The country is bordered by Hungary to the south, Czech Republic to the northwest, Ukraine to the east and Austria to the southwest. More than a third of the country’s landscape is dotted with mountains and other elevated features like plateaus. The chief among them is the Tatra Mountains, where the highest point, Gerlach Peak is located. The mountains and plateaus slope down to form plains and lowlands. The important and also most fertile plain in Slovakia is the Danube River plain.

The culture of Slovakia is a seamless amalgam of contemporary Europeanism and quaint pastoral lifestyle. The country has its own personal “Traditional Slovak Calendar” to record events. Art in Slovakia is a concoction of modern sculptures and paintings and traditional forms of wood carving and fabric weaving. The country’s obsession with art is made prominent in the intricate and artistic architecture of the buildings.

Slovakia features a rapidly developing economy which is in the process of becoming a full fledged economy. The country is naturally blessed with a number of natural resources including coal, lignite, copper, iron ore and manganese ore. Slovakia has extensive fertile lands which are ideal for growing crops like grains, hops, sugar beets, and potatoes. The country has a highly developed industrial sector which includes textiles, metal processing, ceramics, paper, rubber and machinery. The major parts of these are exported which rakes in a large revenues for the country.
