Vatican City

Officially known as the State of the Vatican City, it is the smallest independent state of the world. The state is a landlocked territory located within Rome. The Vatican City was formed in 1929 through the Lateran Treaty. The state is looked after by the Pope who heads the government. The state has a lot of cultural importance that can be marked by the presence of the various historical monuments like the Sistine Chapel and the St. Peter’s Basilica. The library and the museum of the state is world famous for its rich collection of scientific, historical and cultural masterpieces.

The state was added as a world heritage by the UNESCO in 1984. As far as the economy of the state is concerned it has a non-commercial economy which is mostly dependant upon the financial support from the Catholics spread through out the world. A little revenue is also generated from the fees charges for entering the museums, through the sale of stamps and through tourism. The state used Euro as its official currency since 1st January 1999 and issues its own coins. The state provides excellent facilities to its residents with the presence of the various post offices, police services and the fire brigade.
