Costa Rica renowned as republic of Cost Rica and is a part of Central America. It is bordered by Nicaragua on the north, Panama to south-southeast, Pacific Ocean to west & south. It is world’s first country to abolish its army, having capital city as San Jose & national language as Spanish. It is spread over a vast area of 51100 sq.km area with 41.33 lac population. Their currency is CRC- Costa Rican colon. Costa Rica also comprises of several islands.
Costa Rica is a democratic republic with strong constitution. Their democracy has very long innings of 115 years & supposed to be one of the most stable countries in the region. It is composed of seven provinces each divided into 81 sub parts. Mestizos i.e. mixed Spanish and American and white, make up majority of population.
Costa Rica is a meeting point of Mesoamerican & South America with respect to culture. Literacy rate in Costa Rica is 96% one of the highest in Latin America. Universal public education is guaranteed.
Costa Rica’s GDP per capita is US$12500, however this developing country still has problem of highest inflation. Lack of maintenance, no policies for infrastructure developments causing unemployment & low living standards have resulted in slow economic growth. Recently government is offering tax exemptions to expedite reforms. In recent times electronics, pharmaceuticals, financial outsourcing, software development, ecotourism have become prime industries.
