Greenland
Greenland is located between the Artic and Atlantic Ocean and is a self governing Danish region. Greenland, politically and historically is closely tied to Europe. Greenland is the largest island of the world. However, it is not considered as a continent. It is also the largest dependant territory, area wise, in the world. To the southeast of Greenland lays Atlantic Ocean, to the east is the Greenland Sea, to the north is the Artic Ocean, and to the west of Greenland is Baffin Bay. A large area of Greenland is covered by ice sheet and it also has a long coastline.
Greenlandic and Danish are the official language of Greenland. Majority of the population of Greenland is descended from Inuit, thus culture of Greenland is similar to Inuit culture. Haunting is iconic ton their culture. It has become a popular tourist destination. The tourists are attracted towards the dog racing, hiking, cross country racing, ice fishing.
Greenland is dependant on fishing and the various fish exports. The shrimp fishing industry contributes mainly to the income. Various hydrocarbon and mineral exploration activities are carried on at Greenland. In order to develop hydrocarbon industry, NUNAOIL, an oil company was opened. The public sector too plays an important role in Greenland’s economy. It suffered economic contraction earlier, however it has improved today. It has registered itself as a foreign trade deficit following the last and remaining zinc and lead mines.
