Haiti

Haiti is a Latin American country located in the Greater Antilles archipelago on Hispaniola, Caribbean island. Haiti consists of several small islands like La Gonave, La Tortue, La Grande Caye, and Les Cayemites. Ayiti is the original Taino or Amerindian name for the island. The highest point of this island is Pic la Selle which is at 2,680 meters. Haiti is the first nation to become a free independent black nation and is also a successful slave rebellion. Haiti is divided into 10 departments and they are further divided into 41 arrondissements and 133 communes.

French and Haitian Creole are the official languages of Haiti. However, many other languages are spoken in this country. The culture of Haiti is a mixture of French and Africa elements so also minor influences of Taino and Spanish culture are found. Most of the people follow Roman Catholicism. Music of Haiti is well known. The Kompa style is vibrant dance and music style that is similar to that of Cuban neighbors. Haiti cuisine is largely influenced by the French.

Haiti is one of the least developed nations of western region due to political instability and violence. In 2006 it was marked that about 80 % of the population is lived in poverty. Near about 66 % of Haitians work in agriculture sector. 30 % of GDP is contributed by agriculture sector. On Corruption Perceptions Index, it has constantly ranked.
