Navassa Island

Navassa is a small island that is located in the South of U.S naval base in the Guantanamo Bay in the Carribbean. The island was first discovered in the year 1504 by Christopher Columbus and the island later became an unorganized territory f the United states in October 1854. The island coves an area of nearly 5.2 square kilometers. This small Navassa island is today an uninhabited but there lived thousands of labors when the island was being mined. Most of these labors settled in the Lulu town at the time when it was mined for Guano in 1965 to 1898 buy today the island is only a wildlife preserve for the United States.

The landscape of the Navassa island consists of mainly of limestone and vertical white cliffs that are nearly 15 meters high also surround the island. Apart from dense forests that comprise of fig-like trees along with scattered cactus the island also has a rich grassland that supports the goatherds. The temporary Haitian fishermen and other people usually camp on the island but usually the island is uninhabited. The island does not have any mode of transport to it like harbors or ports but then there are offshore anchorage only. The only natural resource of the island is Guano but there are also fishing and trawling activities.
