The Netherlands Antilles that was previously known as Dutch Antilles or Netherlands West Indies lies in the Caribbean sea and is the part of the Lesser Antilles and other two group of islands the Bonaire and Curacao. These group of islands are located off the Venezuelan coast along with Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten that make up an independent part of the Kingdom of Netherlands. All the islands along with Netherlands Antilles have been originated by volcanic eruption and hills that have left only a few place for agriculture. There is a tropical or warm climate throughout the year in the Netherlands Antilles. The island being a windward island it is subject to hurricanes in the summer months.
Netherlands is a home for various descends from African slaves and European colonists that make up the major population. Apart from these descendents from Latin America, Caribbean islands and east Asia also contribute to the total population of 183,000. Although the official language in Netherlands Antilles is Dutch, English is also widely spoken along with Papiaments, Spanish, and Creole. The mixed black ethnic group along with other white and east Asian ethnic groups make up most of the population on the island. Petroleum and tourism are the two main sources for the islands economy.
