Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Kitts and Nevis or better known as Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis is a federal nation in West Indies. It is one of the smallest counties which are small in area as well as population. The nation is the union of two islands. Larger island belongs to the capital of nation, Saint Kitts. The other island of Nevis is located at about 3kms from Saint Kitts in the southeast direction. The two islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis country were governed as two separate states till the end of 19th century. The two states along with another state called Anguilla united in 1967.
The nation is originated from volcano irruption. The highest peak in the nation is Mount Liamuiga which is 1156 meters high. The land is covered with tropical rainforests. Major part of the population lives nearer to the seashores. Fresh water from descending rivers from the mountains is available for the people living here.
Carnival is the major event of celebration in this country. People in Saint Kitts and Nevis love to play music and dance. During the celebration, dancers perform variety of dances such as Salsa, Calypso, Jazz and steelpan.
The economy of the country is mainly based on tourism. Due to its strategic and exotic locations large numbers of tourists are attracted to this place. Other fields such as small manufacturing industries and agriculture act as the secondary source of economy. The annual growth in GDP is about 5.5%. The nation faces decrease in this due to hurricanes. But from 2003 the economy is stable due to increase in tourism.
