Saint Lucia or well known as “Helen of West Indies”, is an island on the eastern side in Caribbean Sea. The nation is surrounded by Lesser Antilles islands on the north, Barbados island on northwest and Martinique on the south. During the colonial era the control on the nation switched between French and British government.
Most of the population in Saint Lucia belongs to the African religion. 5% people belong to the mulatto origin, 3% to the indo- Caribbean and 1.1% to the European origin. The pure European people are descendents of Irish, British and French colonists. Majority of people here speak English. However Creole language which is a combination of African, Carib and French languages is spoken the most. Various fairs and festivals from African, French and Caribbean cultures are celebrated in Saint Lucia. Most of the fairs are carnivals where people gather on the streets, dance on the foot taping music and eat.
Majority of the economy of the nation depends on the production of bananas. The tourism and offshore banking play a secondary major part in the economy. Tourism and banana market grow hand in hand here. Due to the dry tropical environment conditions large numbers of tourists are attracted to this place. As a result enormous beach resorts and hotels are immerging here.
