Nuclear

Nuclear is an adjective for the nucleus of atoms consisting of protons and neutrons. From the nucleus results large quantities of energy called the nuclear energy. Ernest Rutherford known as the father of nuclear science is remembered for his contributions made in the 20th century to the theory of atomic structure and for discovering the immense energy contained within this tiny structure.

The greater part of the invention made by the physicist Enrico Fermi in 1934 was the nuclear fission that resulted from the splitting of nucleus of an atom into parts releasing energy. Surprisingly Enrico with his team of scientists discovered that on nuclear fission the combined mass of the split elements is half the amount from their original mass. Subsequent results showed that on nuclear fission the greater part of the energy was released in the form of heat explaining the lighter weight of these elements on fission. The heat released on nuclear fission could be used to generate electricity in nuclear plants. This early invention and development of nuclear energy was governed for peaceful purposes. However, with the invention of nuclear weapon in World War II nuclear energy and nuclear power took a dreadful turn and today has become the major cause of hampering with the world peace.
