Physicists

A physicist is one who studies physics and its varied branches. A physicist can study any branch of physics from sub atomic physics to the branch of physics which deals with particles which make up objects.

When a student wishes to become a physicist, he needs to study physics at the undergraduate level. Most of the topics which he will encounter in his study will be theories that have been formulated by well known scientists in the last hundred years. These are tried and tested theories which can be developed further and put to more uses. Newton’s laws of motion, electromagnetic field theory, relativity, optics, magnetism, thermodynamics, classical physics, nuclear physics, quantum physics, astronomy and modern physics are some of the topics commonly encountered. One can continue to study further and obtain a doctoral degree. At this stage, the student has to specialize in one particular branch of physics such as nuclear physics, material physics, geophysics or modern physics to name a few.

Employment opportunities are many. One can take up teaching at an educational institution or become a researcher for a private industry. Physicists can also contribute to interdisciplinary fields such as engineering physics and computing.
