Giving a present to someone is a great way to show you care about them. The rituals of gift-giving play a part in almost every culture. Whatever the occasion, whether it’s a wedding, an anniversary, a birthday, or childrens’ favourite, Christmas, or whether you just want to cheer someone up or surprise them with an expression of affection, the giving of gifts is a fundmental part of our most important relationships.

There are many easy choices to make as gifts – flowers for women for example, socks for men seem to be eternally popular. But taking your time over the choice of a gift, making it relate in some way to the personal circumstances of the recipient, can often be very emotive – touching them in some profound way or making a humorous point. This allows the recipient to decide for him or herself exactly what it is they would like which, after all, they know better than anyone else.
