Adoption is the legal way of making a child which is not biologically yours, a part of your family. The child in question will assume your surname, and you will henceforth bear legal responsibility for the child. The adopted child also becomes entitled to all rights that a biological child would have had, including inheritance rights. Adoption removes all claims that the birth parents have on their child.
Adoption can occur due to various reasons. If the biological parents of the child are unable to provide for him/her, they may put him/her up for adoption so that she/he can lead a better life. In the event that the parents have passed away, the child can be adopted by another competent family. The state may also put the child up for adoption if they find instances of abuse and neglect at the hands of his parents.
Adoption can be of various types. When you adopt a child of the same nationality as yours, it is domestic adoption. If you adopt a child from another country, it is known as international adoption. In open adoptions, the child in question is given access to his birth records and may have contact from time to time with his biological parents. In closed adoptions, there is generally no contact between the two parties. This may be because the state deems the parents unfit to take care of their child, or because the parents want nothing to do with their son/ daughter.
Bringing up a child is one of the most fulfilling experiences in the life of a human. Adoptions are becoming increasingly popular as society has started to become more receptive towards the idea . Several celebrities today have adopted children. Several clebrities such as Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman & Tom Cruise.
